How to Become a Health and Safety Officer in the UK

[ad_1]

A health and safety officer (also known as a HSO) monitors how an organisation complies with health and safety law, and provides advice to both companies and employers on safe working environments. A HSO will usually work for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the local government, or a similar body, specially trained to monitor compliance with health and safety regulations. Health and Safety officers also exist within private organisations, usually larger ones, and in the public sector, such as hospitals and schools etc.

Health and Safety Officers are employed in a variety of industries such as construction, manufacturing, catering, waste, IT and aerospace as well as many more. The objective is simple and that is to keep people safe when in the working environment.

A HSO has a number of responsibilities. Whenever visiting an organisation, the health and safety officer must record all information. They carry out routine inspections over the course of time, which will include collating evidence and taking any samples, when necessary. They should investigate any complaints that have been made about the work environment, and provide advice on technical and legal issues. They should collect evidence and build case files, which includes maintaining a database of inspections. If necessary, a HSO may have to present information in court, or on other public enquiries relating to injury and/or death in the workplace. More than anything, a HSO will ensure that an organisation is complying with legislation, and isn’t taking the health and safety of their staff for granted. If this was the case, the officer would suggest ways to improve the working conditions, and monitor any changes that are made thereafter. So, a health and safety officer has plenty of duties – but it is an important one, which helps to make working environments a lot safer for many companies, and can be a successful career path to follow.

Qualifications

You normally need a Higher National Diploma (HND) or degree, usually in occupational safety and health. There are also qualifications at a higher level for those who are clear what their career path is. To practice as a health and safety officer, you can complete either a BSc or MSc in environmental health, they are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; in Scotland, they are credited by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS).

Just to get on these courses, however, you will require other qualifications. You will need either NVQs or A-levels. Ideally, these qualifications will be one of the science-based subjects (chemistry, biology and physics) or mathematics, but it isn’t a major problem if this is not the case. However, you would need at least 5 A-C grades at GCSE level, with at least a B in maths.

There are other courses available which can provide you with work experience. There are also sandwich courses, meaning that you will still gain work experience in your chosen field, but whilst the majority of your studies will be at one college, the rest of your time will be spent at another university.

Don’t worry however if you don’t have a degree. Many careers paths see people evolve into different roles and health and safety officer is one of those. Probably the most sought-after qualification required for this role is the National Examination Board for Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate and Diploma. NEBOSH and IOSH another qualification in health safety appears on most job descriptions. NEBOSH courses are generally studied at college, and can be taken both full and part-time and require the student to take examinations at the end. However, it is increasingly more common now that NEBOSH courses can be studied intensively over 10-14 days which can really help those looking to fast track their career.

What Employers Are Looking For

Health and safety are important areas that all organisations must always take into consideration. Therefore, as a HSO, you will be required to ensure that all environments you come into contact with are safe and healthy, or if not, suggest the ways that they can be improved. As a result, there are a number of key skills that employers are looking for in a health and safety officer.

Communication skills are very important; you will often have to suggest potential flaws, so being able to explain the problems, the possible consequences if they are not fixed, and how to remedy them in a well-spoken, considerate and calm manner is vital. If not, it could have the opposite effect, and the suggested changes will not be made out of spite, which could then lead to danger.

You must also be calm. There will be moments of extreme pressure and high stress. For example, should you have to report on an incident wherein due to a failure to comply with health and safety regulations, a worker has been injured or even killed, you may have to advise and create a case for prosecution, which could involve gathering photographic evidence and speaking with those most closely linked with the incident. Although you are not at fault, it will still be stressful and hard to deal with, so being able to remain cool under such pressures is of great significance, to you, the organisation and the people involved.

There are other traits that an employer will want to see. You will have to be self motivated and well-organised, as you will usually have to build and maintain your own inspection records. You must be able to think on your feet; if you see a potential hazard, knowing quickly how to address the matter means that it will be dealt with more quickly. And you should always be open to the advice of others; you may suggest a course of action that may be wrong, or perhaps there is a better way of dealing with a problem. Being able to listen to others will help you to improve, and make you a better health and safety officer.

How Much Money Will I Make as a Health & Safety Officer in the

UK?

For those just starting out within health and safety, as well as graduates, the starting salary is likely to be around £25,000. Depending on the size of the organisation, and its location, however, that figure could be higher, possibly as high as £40,000 for a major company in a heavily populated part of the country. When entering a management role, the starting salary for a health and safety officer will be even higher, with some earning upwards of £60,000.

In addition, there may be opportunities to work for private sector companies, who advise on health and safety issues and work on a consultancy basis earning £250-£1000 per day. Salaries will be roughly the same as those for a “regular” health and safety officer, but those who reach senior consultancy positions generally earn more than £100,000. So, one can understand why, if the option to work as a consultant for health and safety becomes available, most would take it.

Pros and Cons of Becoming a Health & Safety Officer in the UK

There are benefits and drawbacks to being a health and safety officer. Although being able to spot and avoid hazards may seem logical, there are potential problems which can make the job a stressful one to have.

The list below shows the main pros and cons of being a health and safety officer.

PROS

• Much of the learning is based on logic

• Helping others will make your own working environment safer

Garlic Health Benefits and Resveratrol

[ad_1]

Garlic health benefits are unique it has properties that can impact some of our 21st century health problems in dramatic way. It is amazing that a simple food can have such profound effects on our health and well-being.

What scientist are discovering daily just how potent some of our nearly forgotten natural foods can be. Hippocrates, the father of medicine and perhaps the greatest healer who ever lived, wrote some 2,500 years ago:

“Let food be your medicine-let your medicine be your food.”

Garlic the Ideal Food

That was a powerful statement then, and it is even a more applicable statement our 21st century health problems.

Garlic health benefits probably more than any other food, fits into Hippocrates description of and ideal food. It is extremely nutritious and has health-promoting and disease-preventing properties that have only recently been closely examined and accepted.

Where Does it Grow

Garlic grows in just about every part of the world, in temperate, subtropical and tropical regions.

It is not grown from a seed, but from individual cloves.

If you plant one clove in the right conditions, it will produce a bulb or head with eight to twenty cloves. The botanical name for garlic is allium sativum.

The First Appearance of Garlic

The first appearance of garlic in history dates back over 6,000 years. In 1911 clay models of garlic bulbs were found in a tomb at Mahasna in Egypt.

They can be accurately dated back to 3750 B.C.,well before time of the Pharaohs. The models were made of unbaked, whitewashed clay with as many as nine pods to a central globe.

Experts have remarked on the excellent, lifelike reproductions.

Garlic for Vibrant Health

The Greeks of Athens and Knossos reveled in garlic health benefits.

It was around this time that it began to have a defined health and medical connotation. The Greeks held that it gave them vibrant health and energy.

Aristotle described it as a tonic to invigorate and restore health. Olympic athletes used garlic to enhance strength and endurance.

Garlic is good for increasing the flow of urine (diuretic). Relaxing the stomach (digestive aid) with candida infection and aiding a cough with pus or signs of suppuration in a sick man (antibiotic) clears the arteries (lowers blood fats, cholesterol and triglycerides) candida infection and aiding a cough with pus or signs of suppuration in a sick man (antibiotic) clears the arteries (lowers blood fats, cholesterol and triglycerides) is cancer preventive and even helps to lower high blood pressure.

Garlic health benefits are so numerous it is hard to write about them all.

Garlic’s Historical Record

If garlic did not work and work well, it would have fallen out of the historical record at some point long ago. but garlic has a medical history more solid than just about any other substance we know. It has truly stood the test of time.

Garlic’s Unique Taste and Smell

How does garlic suddenly develop its characteristic taste and smell? If you take a clove of garlic, peel it, get real close and take a sniff. There is no odor. You can lick the uncut clove and there is no taste.

If you boil it without cutting it, you get a vegetable taste. The strong odor and taste of garlic appear only after it has been cut or crushed. What is the strong smelly compound, and what is the mystery of its production?

Its the allicin in the garlic when it is crushed or cut the garlic releases this chemical and that is where the strong taste and smell come from.

Garlic and Resveratrol

Garlic is a powerful antioxidant and like Resveratrol is an anti aging compound. And like resveratrol naturally helps to lower cholesterol. Any vitamin or substance that protects the cells is anti aging but Resveratrols anti aging properties are a little different than any other compound because it activates the sirtuins inside our cells and turns on the longevity genes inside our cells.

A Diet Rich in Natural Foods Can Increase Longevity

In different parts of the world people don’t suffer from the same diseases we Americans do.

Like the French who have half the heart disease we do and eat four times the fat that we do they drink a glass of red wine with almost every meal and it is the resveratrol in the red wine that helps prevent heart disease.

The Greenland Eskimos diet is mostly whale blubber and they don’t suffer the same heart disease either because they also get twelve grams of fish oil (omega-3s) in there diet every day.

The Ikarians have a diet rich in natural foods and garlic health benefits, helps prevent old age disease just like how Resveratrol slows the aging process.

And the Ikarians suffer 20 percent fewer cases of cancer than do Americans and have about half our rate of heart disease and one-ninth our rate of diabetes.

Most astonishing of all: among the islanders over 90 whom the team studied-about one-third of Ikaria’s population who are 90 and older-there was virtually no Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia.

In the United States more than 40 percent of people over 90 suffer some form of this devastating ailment.

Maintaining a Healthy Thyroid Diet – Include These Foods

[ad_1]

Have you ever heard “You are what you eat?” I’m sure you have.

When I gave up on western medicine to solve my Graves’ and later Hashimoto’s disease, I turned to diet. This was not an easy process. I struggled for a long time experimenting with foods and discovered that diet can indeed influence the thyroid.

I discovered what foods to remove from my diet and what foods were needed to cure and maintain a healthy thyroid. Now I want to cover:

Foods to ADD to my life to boost my immune system and detox the body and help the thyroid

NUTRITIONALLY-DENSE FOODS

FOOD that is nutritionally-dense and provides all the key macro- and micro-nutrients in good ratio.

Some tips here:

o Always organic, they are more nutrition-packed and free of hormones that are known to interrupting our endocrine system

o Meat must be at least organic but pasture-raised is best. We want to eliminate antibiotics and growth hormones from our diet

o Food that is FERMENTED the traditional way, so things like sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, homemade yoghurt, kombucha tea are all rich in probiotics.

PROTEINS and FATS

They are the building blocks of your digestive track and our hormones. We are fat-o-phobic in America and low-fat diets are one of the worse things that we invented. Europeans and Asians have fat-rich diets (traditionally) and enjoy much better health than we do. Good fat tips: avocados, walnuts, coconut oil, coconut butter. Animal fats are the best in restoring a troubled digestion; ghee (clarified butter), butter, chicken and beef fat are essential but need to be rendered and not in fried/processed form.

PROBIOTICS

Probiotics are key in restoring your digestive track

Everyone has bacteria in their digestive tract, or gut, that is essential to the function of the human body. A healthy adult has about 1.5 – 2 kg of bacteria in their gut, both good and bad. Normal levels of bacteria, or flora, in the gut protects against invaders, undigested food, toxins, and parasites. When the good and bad bacteria in the gut get out of whack (i.e. more bad than good), a whole host of negative reactions can occur in the body. Undigested foods can leak through into the bloodstream causing food allergies and intolerances, vitamins and minerals to not be absorbed, leading to deficiency, the bad bacteria to produce a whole host of toxins, and the immune system to not function properly.

Here are examples of traditionally fermented food you could incorporate to your diet:

o Sauerkraut (pick properly fermented, not in vinegar)

o Kim chee (Korean fermented veggies)

o Yoghurt

o Kefir (has different bacteria than yoghurt, also super beneficial)

o Kombucha tea

o Vegetable medley (fermented)

o Coconut water kefir

HERBS, SUPPLEMENTS and VITAMINS that benefit the thyroid

Although I’m a fan of getting these from real food whenever possible. It’s hard to give tips here as many people over-medicate and feel worse later. Hopefully these tips help; they apply to most auto-immune conditions (this was given by my naturopath who focuses on hormonal and thyroid health):

  • most people are Vit D deficient, taking Vit D in 2,000 units is safe and good to do as Vit D is actually a hormone, connected to the thyroid
  • calcium is key but needs to be taken with magnesium for full absorption
  • for hypothyroidism: selenium, turmeric/curcumin, phytosterols and for GI support; probiotics and L-Glutamine are key.
  • for hyperthyroidism: copper and magnesium are a common deficiency in people with hyper.

SIMPLE MEDITATION, BREATHING and VISUALIZATION techniques that manage stress and emotions.

I cannot emphasis how important this is, especially for people with hyperthyroidism. We underestimate what stress and emotions do to us; each flare-up of anger, feelings of guilt, fear, hostility, jealousy, etc fire up the adrenals which release cortisol and this hormone has a detrimental impact on the thyroid.

MOVEMENT PLAN

Whether it is sports, dancing, yoga that gets you moving that does not drain your adrenals and your thyroid, yet gives you a sense of accomplishment and joy.

BALANCE

Balance based on your bio-individuality

No one diet/plan works for everybody as each person has a unique way of healing. There is a saying: “One person’s food is another’s poison.” It’s always worth remembering that just because one diet worked for one person it does not mean it will work for you too. The same way one person could have healed their thyroid by just changing the water filters (by getting rid of fluoride) alone and another needs to implement five major diet and lifestyle changes to start feeling just a little better. Let’s respect our differences.

The important thing is to know that the alkalinity will neutralize acids and leads to a healthier you. It can begin to achieve the alkalinity eating mainly alkaline foods and drinking alkaline water. Alkaline foods is typically high in antioxidants as well.

All food, when eaten, End of the acid in the body. Pollution, pesticides and other contaminants in food is broken down into acid. PH test strips can be found online or at your local drug stores. Test your urine and saliva alkaline to see how acidic or. The body should be pH 6.5 to 7.0 pH range during the day. Eating food and drinking high alkaline and antioxidants.

Amazing Health Benefits of Cilantro – The Mega Benefits of Eating Fresh Cilantro

[ad_1]

Recently I noticed I began to use cilantro at unprecedented levels in my cooking and had decided to look cilantro up on the web, even though I only recently started to cook and use it in my cooking and garden four years ago but never to the extent of my recent usage amounts. I wasn’t going to search as to why I had been craving this herb, but what were its supposed effects, if any on our bodies. I was shocked to learn how great cilantro actually is for us and to our overall health.

It was only until now that I was curious what the herb was all about. And why the heck was I started to naturally crave this herb? I had to get to the bottom of this but promptly! I knew I had used it plenty of times in my ‘Oh So Famous Salsa’ recipe. But I needed to know what did cilantro do, if anything to us and our bodies. With the research I found, this article was created and I just had to share.

Who knew That Cilantro Was This Good!?!

Want a cure all for viral and bacterial infections and more? Well read on…albeit maybe novel, the ability to use cilantro greatly increases our ability to clear up recurring infections, both viral and bacterial especially when eaten with omega-3 enriched foods such as nuts. But there are many other wonderful side effects of eating Cilantro. Who knew?

Why Fresh?

Although we all like to use fresh herbs if we can get them, it seems that there are more benefits than first thought, especially when us foodies started to first go all hog-wild on the “got-to-be-fresh-happy” with the use of non-dried herbs in our cooking. So many of us grew up with dried herbs, and for many more, dried herbs that would stay in our cupboards for years. I know I am not alone here. That by the time we reached (some sort of ) adulthood, we wished to cook no more “out-of-the-box”, but back to the real deal, thankfully to food network stations everywhere telling us the importance of a dishes success depends on the use of the freshest of herbs.

This trend in “using fresh herbs as a must” is so true that McCormick, this past fall, placed out one page magazine advertisements in several magazines and even created a website to assist visitors in checking out just how old their herbs were in their cupboards. If you think I am kidding check and note if any of your spices from the McCormick’s is from the Baltimore factory, if so, note that this bottle is over 15 years old! Yuck! I had four or five in my cabinets that were promptly tossed. Yeah I know, who knew!

Using Cilantro In Your Cooking

Cilantro has a mild peppery taste, flat leaves and is similar looking to flat-leafed parsley. It is a family member of the carrot family – and as you can tell from its looks, the tops of this wonderful herb resemble that of a carrot top.

Cilantro is great as an edible garnish. If you mince it and sprinkle any dish you have before you, literally, including your breakfast eggs, you will receive its curing and healing attributes of the cilantro herb.

But I have recently resurrected its’ importance in being a main point in my daily diet. After a little research, I learned that cilantro seems to have some very interesting (and affordable) super health benefits and can be seen as a major cleaner of the body in ridding heavy metals such as mercury, lead and aluminum from one’s body.

Yes, there’s more people, cilantro is also a blood cleaner. And heck why not eat what you love and detox your body simultaneously?

It seems that for years there have been drugs available to help rid the body of the heavy metals called, ‘Chelation therapy’ [which] using chemical agents like EDTA has long been used to help remove heavy metals” but it seems as if cilantro is one of the affordable natural substances than can remove these metals naturally.

So what do you do to get this herb to assist in your healing?

Best eaten raw, but you knew that already! Some suggestions include using cilantro pesto (recipe below) over pasta, spread onto toasted Italian bread, a dollop over your cooked meat, etc. you get the idea here people! You can also add this peppery herb to cooking, from any and all rice dishes, and pastas to meat dishes.

This herb is also very affordable in fresh bunches at your grocery store. My local store has them at $1.00 for (2) two nice-sized bunches. A small handful (2 teaspoons minced) used in your salads every day for two to three weeks which is the recommended amount to have its curing properties work on your issues it seems, will have you feeling better than you have been in a long while.

Do wash your cilantro very well though. The best way is to fill a large bowl with cold water, and gently put the tops in tops down into the bowl. Stirring the end of the bunch of cilantro, swishing it around will help loosed any soil that may be on it. You can then shake dry and place it in a bad, much the same you would do wish washed lettuce.

Want To Grow Cilantro?

Cilantro is super easy to grow from seed, – which is the coriander seed – hey who knew?!? But be sure to cut your plant often like parsley, for constant fresh growth. Likes sun, and the cilantro is a simple herb that also helps to keep the bugs away. Another natural remedy! A great plant for kids to try as one of their first herbs due to its quick growing in the garden and low-maintenance gardening requirements. Cilantro also does fairly well in a extra sunny kitchen window.

A friend of mine has a great cilantro ‘pesto’ though his is very hot, there are many variations I see on the web. The main point it that you will increase your ability to heal yourself from viral and bacterial infections – especially re-occurring ones with adding 2-3 teaspoons of fresh cilantro with your diet every day for two to three weeks.

I have started this trend of uping the use of my cilantro amounts now for a week, and my head seems clear and my body feels great. Now I know why from this research. I will let you all know how fantastic I feel in two weeks on this.

Here’s one recipe for Cilantro Pesto.

Cilantro Pesto

1 clove garlic

1 cup almonds, cashews, or other nuts

1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves

2 tablespoons lemon juice

6 tablespoons olive oil

Put the cilantro and olive oil in blender and process until the cilantro is chopped. Add the rest of the ingredients and process to a lumpy paste. (You may need to add a touch of hot water and scrape the sides of the blender.) You can change the consistency by altering the amount of olive oil and lemon juice, but keep the 3:1 ratio of oil to juice. (It freezes well, so you can make several batches at once.)

Happy Healing Healthily in a Hurry!

As a side note though, there is one spice tin I keep simply for its name, shape of its tin and for the nostalgic purpose in reminding me of my mother’s kitchen cabinets which had more spices than any neighbor and was more organized than any kitchen cabinet I knew of then. And yes, she was a great cook and known outside the family for her parties full of fantastic homemade food. And for these reasons why I probably write so much on food besides cooking up a storm any chance I get. But I am loving my cilantro but hard, an herb she never got to learn to try. I will make sure my friends and family do not have the same experience but instead learn and more importantly add this oh-so affordable herb to their everyday diet for better health!

Getting Older Is Not About Eating Less, It Is About Enough Nutrition

[ad_1]

I have been helping people find their best health for a while. Nutrition for the middle age and above is eating to feel good, and avoid genetic diseases, and definitely keep the belly fat to a minimum. Food that works for one does not work for another.

Bo, my friend, is getting complaints about not eating the meals that are being fixed for him. He is a Blood Type B, and has found out that by eliminating chicken from his diet, he has lessened his chronic fatigue. It is challenging to do this eating plan, because there is so much pressure from his peers. He found, it is best to keep quiet and go and find food that is “right” for him. It is also a challenge, as it is amazing how many products have ingredients in them that are not “good” for him. This is why I heartily recommend whole food. It is much easier to put a meal together this way. Bo is feeling better and his overall health is improved, his arthritis is greatly improved, and chronic fatigue is a thing of the past.

Sallie is my friend from college, who graduated as a Medical Technologist with me. She first heard about the “Eat for Your Blood-Type Diet” and was skeptical. I gave her the book, and she said nothing grabbed her attention. She gave the book away. Then in 2009 her daughter-in-law gave her another book. She had undergone allergy testing, and wheat, corn, and peanuts came up positive on the test. She was amazed when she looked under Type B in the book that wheat, corn, and peanuts were on the AVOID list. These for, Blood Type B, are especially responsible for weight gain, and are inhibitors of an efficient metabolism. She had to stop and think about her diet, and how she felt at 58. She found it interesting that she had always disliked tomatoes and beans, both on the avoid list. (There are beneficial, kidney, navy and lima beans for Blood Type B.) I personally, have some kind of beans EVERY DAY.

She had been on a gluten-free diet for about 2 years, and hadn’t felt many changes, except her GI tract seemed to be better. The same wheat, corn, and peanuts also cause hypoglycemia in Blood Type B. She has had trouble with hypoglycemia all her life. She decided to first cut out the wheat, corn, and peanuts. She still eats yogurt, which had previously, made her hypoglycemic, and made sure she found brands with NO corn syrup. (in my 8 keys to basic health which have been expanded to 10, I recommend, that no one eat high fructose corn syrup). Within a couple of months, she noticed she wasn’t hypoglycemic. She would get hungry, and not get the awful symptoms of hypoglycemia. She lost 5 pounds without trying, and was suddenly IMPRESSED!

Since she has been diligent about avoiding foods that cause hypoglycemia and weight gain. She also stays clear of foods on the avoid lists. She slowly added in the highly beneficial foods to her diet, and also now eats non-processed foods at all meals. She is eating more vegetables, which is hard for her. It takes time and effort to fix something we have not grown up with, so we can eat it. She now eats nuts and fruits too. As a Blood Type B she is challenged, finding some meats, and she now eats lamb and fish plus beef, buffalo, and turkey. She still makes chicken for her family even though it is an avoid. I assume she doesn’t eat any.

The hardest and most challenging part of the diet is eliminating wheat and corn. She thought gluten-free was a challenge, and wheat, and/or corn are in everything. Gluten-free products usually contain corn flour or corn starch. She just found out that the gluten-free flour blend she was using contains gelatin, which is on her avoid list. She would try a bakery gluten-free bread, and later discover it has corn flour or buckwheat in it. She has done a lot of internet searches to find usable products. She found an almond flour cookbook that is fabulous, and uses ingredients she can use. Almond flour can also be used to produce low glycemic goodies.

Mexican, Italian and Chinese food contain wheat, corn, and tomatoes. Tomatoes are also on her avoid list. She says it makes eating out difficult. (Turkey would be most beneficial for her or buffalo burgers, and not too many restaurants serve this.)

She will try to eat small amounts of wheat or other avoidance food maybe twice a month. She doesn’t notice any new symptoms unless she eats way too much of a certain food. She ate a whole wheat waffle just to see what would happen. That night she woke up with a migraine headache. She hadn’t had a headache in years.

She has had blood work done regularly, and 6 months after starting the blood type diet, she had more tests run. She was surprised to see that her A1C levels, glucose, and insulin levels declined dramatically. In the past they had steadily risen. She now had proof her metabolism was more efficient. Her intestinal tract improved even more, and her allergies have almost, disappeared.

She has fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue with is common for Blood Type B. She is not sure the diet has/or will cure this, still she does feel better. (I hope she gets 100% better.) She was taking arginine for her heart, since Blood Type B’s need this to help get rid of their stress factors, and support their heart. She Googled fibromyalgia, and found that it may be caused, or be a result of too much nitric oxide. To get arginine naturally, turkey and spinach are good for starters. It is better to eat precursors and nutrients naturally. Pills can be “too much”.

Working to decrease stress is most important, as this can inflame our adrenals, and even make us hungrier. Knowing what foods benefit your system the most, can reduce one factor of stress. She sees a chiropractor and physical therapist, which have all contributed to better health.

She takes extra magnesium, and is on a licorice supplement from a naturopath. Her next step should probably be adding in a memory herb, like ginseng or ginkgo, and do the Membrane Fluidizer Cocktail in the morning.

Eating for your blood type is quite the journey. Her family thinks she is crazy. She will continue to follow this diet. This diet fixed her hypoglycemia, and is all the proof she needs, to know, that it works. She looks forward to more research results and hopefully improved health.

I, myself, am a Blood Type A. When I started this eating plan, my cholesterol was over 200 (about 225 and rising). I am concerned about heart disease, and type II diabetes, since high cholesterol and sugar, run in my mother’s side, and fat bellies run in my father’s side.

I would “try” things too, in essence I would sabotage my eating plan with potato chips and white rice. Hence, this process is a journey, and healing your colon, so it recognizes good food, and can process it effectively.

I eat totally the opposite of the Blood Type B’s. Buffalo, Beef, Lamb are on my avoid list. Fish, (the cold water kind) are on my highly beneficial list, and Chicken and turkey are on my neutral list. I actually eat a fish every day. I eat canned salmon, canned tuna or grilled salmon. on top of a large green (romaine) salad, with beans. (Blood Type A beans, are Black eyed Pea, Black Beans and Pinto Beans)

I have managed to lower my cholesterol under 200 (187) and normalize my hdl’s and ldl’s (according to Sallie, out of balance ldl’s especially L 3 and L 4 are what cause heart disease in women.) Very important to normalize those ldl’s.

I even fixed my constipation problem, and take care to keep things running smoothly.

In my other articles I have described how eating too much fruit caused problems, and how finally something on my avoid list caught up with me. I have formatted my e-mails to give important health advice, and how I eat my fruits and vegetables to get some of each, and not cause digestive issues. I have since seen this way of combining protein and veggies, TWICE! When to eat fruits in Marilu Henner’s book, and “The Truth about Abs”. It works!!

My family thinks I am crazy too. I KNOW I feel better, and have found what my genetics are missing, so I can correct it with alternative sources. I will never quit eating this way.

Drinking Water, Hemorrhoids and Alcohol Consumption

[ad_1]

There is a lot to be shared about the connection between drinking water, hemorrhoids (piles) and excessive alcohol consumption. The news media, health blogs and healthy living magazines constantly remind people to drink more water for better health.

We all know water is better for us than soda, sugary drinks and all the other liquids most people prefer to drink than simple water. But we all have cravings. I used to drink lots of soda thinking I was getting enough water from it.

These same health sources also warn that excessive alcohol consumption and hemorrhoids are a painful reality for many heavy drinkers. Piles are inflamed anal veins that grow into small or large masses inside or outside of the anus.

They are commonly known as internal or external hemorrhoids or external piles and internal piles. Hemorrhoid symptoms are chronic itching in and around the rectal cavity. They also cause a stinging burning pain that makes walking or even sitting extremely painful. Severe inflammation of anus veins can cause bleeding from the anal region that can be scary.

Let’s look at drinking water, excessive alcohol consumption and hemorrhoids a little more closely.

Drinking Water and Hemorrhoids

Water is absolutely essential in digestion, absorption of nutrients and bodily waste elimination through urination and bowel movements. Health experts recommend as a general rule of thumb to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day. If you’re exercising or losing bodily fluids more rapidly you’ll need to drink more, but the “8 x 8” rule is a good to gauge follow.

Drinking water helps prevent chronic constipation, which can play a big role in developing piles. Straining when passing bowel movements can lead to blood swollen veins around the anal region. When a person’s body is not properly hydrated from drinking enough water constipation can happen that causes painful piles to develop internally or externally.

Dehydration is significant contributor to hemorrhoids. Drinking plenty of water can greatly reduce the risk of getting this condition that effects millions of people yearly. It can be caused by digestive problems due to poor body hydration. You would be amazed at how many cases could be prevented using the “8×8” rule.

Chronic diarrhea is another major cause of piles forming. Diarrhea’s spastic motion adds a tremendous amount of unhealthy pressure to the anus that can cause straining like with constipation. Strong spastic pressure on the anus that can also cause anal fissures besides inflamed anal veins.

When people do develop hemorrhoids their doctors always tell them to drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins while keeping their digestive system healthy to prevent a future outbreak.

If you don’t like the taste of tap water or want to live eco-friendly avoiding bottled water invest in an affordable water purifier for the kitchen faucet.

As a former hemorrhoid sufferer who went through laser surgery in Los Angeles I make sure I drink plenty of water daily. Hydrate to beat them!

Excessive Alcohol Consumption and Hemorrhoids

By no means am I telling people not to drink. I enjoy one glass of red wine with dinner most nights. My doctor told me it was good for my heart in moderation. If I’m at a dinner party it’s not uncommon for me to have two or three glasses of red wine while enjoying good company.

When I go fishing or camping with family and friends I enjoy more than a few bottles of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. As I’ve got older in life I’ve learned my drinking limits and no when to not push it to excessive alcohol consumption.

Where excessive alcohol consumption and hemorrhoids becomes a dangerous mix is when it comes to heavy or binge drinking. College was my first experience with excessive alcohol consumption and piles. I wasn’t drinking enough water or eating right. My sophomore year I developed a very small external hemorrhoid.

It still hurt like an itchy fiery bee sting and I was embarrassed to tell my friends. My parents took me to a doctor who prescribed me a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to treat it and eliminate it. The growth was very small and was caught early, so it could be treated without surgery or banding. There are other many excellent hemorrhoidal products you can buy online for hemorrhoid relief and treatment.

Alcohol dehydrates the body badly and robs it of precious vitamins. Most people when they drink alcohol skip drinking water in between alcoholic beverages and don’t take a vitamin for a day or night of drinking.

Heavy drinkers have a higher risk of getting this rectal condition because of alcohol dehydration and lack of vitamins in their bodies. It’s recommended to take a multivitamin 4 hours before drinking alcohol. When you drink alcohol make sure to take your vitamins.

Drinking too much alcohol can cause severe constipation and small, dry stools that are tough to pass during bowel movements. The strain and pressure to pass a bowel movement makes the veins in and around the anus inflamed. This is a major factor to internal and external piles developing.

People that consume alcohol excessively will commonly experience digestive and bowel movement problems. This is because alcohol in any common form (beer, wine, whiskey etc.) acts as a diuretic that will dehydrate the alcohol drinker.

A person who is dehydrated normally experiences constipation and is forced to severely strain when passing bowel movements. Binge drinking can also lead to highly elevated blood pressure, which in turn increases the pressure to delicate veins in and around the anus.

The important thing is to drink water even when you’re drinking alcohol to stay well hydrated. Dehydration, constipation and diarrhea contribute heavily to hemorrhoid risk or can make a current hemorrhoid condition worse. Water is your friend when it comes to hemorrhoids. Excessive alcohol consumption and hemorrhoids are two things to avoid if you can.
